Difficult weekend for Jorge Lorenzo
Jorge finished 8th in Silverstone and he's not happy!
This is the latest post appeared on Jorge's Facebook timeline today. He's definitely not happy with his motorbike:
“We made a gamble today with the setting and went harder with the suspension because in 2012 we made [this change] in the warm-up and this worked. But today it didn't work and also we lose rear grip and from the warm-up lap I saw that I had a little bit less rear grip,” Lorenzo said.
He dropped further back in the MotoGP World Championship title race after a set-up gamble backfired at Silverstone, with the reigning champion claiming eighth place at the finish.
Lorenzo is now 64 points behind Repsol Honda's Marc Marquez and 14 behind his Movistar Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi as his hopes of reclaiming his crown continue to fade.
“From the first lap I saw that [Dani] Pedrosa had much more corner speed, much more drive and it was really difficult. I was in the 2'02.3 low, more or less keeping [Andrea] Dovizioso and the second group in my eyes, but more or less in the middle of the race, lap nine, I began to feel big degradation on the rear tyre. That was when Aleix [Espargaro] passed me and I started to lose from Aleix and the second group.”
Lorenzo isn't dwelling too much on his result in the British Grand Prix and takes confidence from his feeling at Brno in the previous race, where he felt poised to challenge for the win in the dry.
“I had the feeling in Brno that I was ready to at least fight for the win, but it rained for the race and we dropped a little bit of confidence. In the dry in Brno we were prepared to fight for the win, but here, no. From the beginning, from the second practice, we were slower than the other guys who had better pace.
“This hard setting didn't improve the balance and increased the problems on the rear with a lot of spinning and driving much more on the exit of the corner,” said Lorenzo.
“In general the Yamaha here this year we struggle so much on the bumps. Valentino [Rossi] today had one or two tenths on me and I was losing one or two tenths every lap compared to the other group because our setting today, we didn't win the gamble and made the bike worse. We had vibration on the bumps and finally the degradation on the tyre.”

MotoGP, season opening under the mark of Jorge Lorenzo
Jorge Lorenzo started the 2016 season like he finished the last one: winning. The Majorcan, starting from the pole position with his Yamaha, has actually won the Qatar Grand Prix preceding Andrea Dovizioso's Ducati, Marc Marquez's Honda and his teammate Valentino Rossi. Not an easy race for the current world champion, but the message for the competitors is pretty clear: he's still the man to beat.
